Most parts of eyebright including leaves, stem, and flowers can be digested and they gain the fame and popularities in herbal medicine. It acts as an anti-catarrhal, astringent and anti-inflammatory herb.

Hot Brewing Infused Eyebright Tea

  • Place 1-2 teaspoons of dried herb in a teapot for each cup of tea you intend to brew.
  • Cover with boiling water. Place on the lid (or cover your cup with a saucer).
  • Allow the mixture to steep for 10 to 15 minutes or overnight.
  • Then strain the tea and serve.
  • Drink 1-3 cups of tea a day.
  • Add if you want honey, milk or lemon wedge for flavor.

Herbal Compresses

  • Pour a teaspoon of dry herb in half a liter of water and boil for 10 minutes. Let it cool a bit.
  • Moisten the compress (cotton, gauze or muslin) in the warm liquid, squeeze it lightly and put it on the eyes.
  • Leave it for 15 minutes.
  • Repeat the use of the compress several times a day.

  • It should not be used too much externally.
  • It has greater activity in its internal use.
  • In any case you should consult with your healthcare doctor before using any herb especially if you’re taking other medications or having health problems.
  • Eyebright is generally considered safe to use medicinally but high consumption has been linked to serious side effects. Such as confusion, headache, tearing, itching, redness, vision problems, sneezing, nausea, toothache, constipation, cough, trouble breathing, trouble sleeping (insomnia), sweating, and others.
