Xiao Qing Gan is an exceptionally rare and meticulously crafted tea, celebrated for its unique production and complex flavor profile. Originating from the Guangdong province and Yunnan region of southern China, this tea embodies the finest qualities of two prized Chinese specialties: the mandarin oranges of Xinhui and the rich Pu Erh tea leaves of Yunnan.
The mandarin oranges used in Xiao Qing Gan, known locally as Chenpi, are harvested green during the summer months from the Xinhui district, near Hong Kong. After carefully removing the pulp, the mandarins undergo a delicate drying process designed to preserve the precious essential oils within their peels. These dried mandarins are then filled with Shu Pu Erh tea leaves sourced from Yunnan.
This fusion of elements allows the citrus aroma and flavor of the mandarins to deeply infuse with the earthy, robust character of the Pu Erh, resulting in a tea that is both aromatic and balanced.
Upon infusion, the Mandarine Pu Erh tea presents an intriguing and harmonious interplay of flavors. The bright, citrus notes are prominent yet gentle, perfectly balanced by the grounding earthiness of the Pu Erh leaves. Rich undertones of tobacco and chocolate emerge, creating a layered and satisfying tasting experience. The tea’s profile can vary subtly depending on the brewing method, offering versatility for both casual drinkers and connoisseurs.
Xiao Qing Gan offers multiple preparation methods to suit individual preferences:
Whole Mandarin Infusion:
- Steep an entire mandarin filled with Pu Erh leaves in a teapot (preferably under 400ml).
- Perform multiple short infusions (1-2 minutes each), with the potential to enjoy up to eight infusions from a single mandarin.
- Use water at 100°C for optimal extraction.
Segmented Mandarin Infusion:
- Break or cut the mandarin into two or three pieces.
- Steep with boiling water (100°C)
- 2-3 minutes per infusion, repeating multiple times.
Leaf-Only Infusion:
- Empty the mandarin and infuse only the Pu Erh leaves.
- You may choose to mix in pieces of the dried mandarin peel during brewing to enhance the citrus notes.
Mandarine Pu Erh tea inherits all the digestive benefits commonly associated with Pu Erh, promoting a sense of lightness and grounding. Traditional Chinese medicine attributes several therapeutic properties to this tea, including antioxidant effects, detoxification, reduction of phlegm, relief from fluid retention, and support in cases of congestion.
This exquisite tea is sold by piece, allowing tea lovers to experience the authentic taste of this rare delicacy. Experience the perfect marriage of citrus freshness and earthy depth with Xiao Qing Gan a tea that not only delights the palate but also nurtures the body, reflecting centuries of Chinese tea craftsmanship.
