Discover the powerful synergy of taste and wellness with Sencha Benifuki, a Japanese green tea made from the rare and health focused Benifuki cultivar. Grown in Minamikyushu, in the fertile volcanic soils of southern Kagoshima Prefecture, this tea offers a distinct flavor profile paired with remarkable health benefits. The June harvest is particularly fresh and vibrant, representing the full maturity of the tea leaves and their rich nutritional content.

Developed and registered in 1993, the Benifuki cultivar (also written “Benifuuki”) is a cross between the Indian Assamica variety and Japanese Yabukita. While originally intended for black tea production, Benifuki has proven to be outstanding as a green tea cultivar, producing leaves exceptionally rich in EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate) a potent antioxidant and methylated catechins.

Studies have shown that methylated catechins, which are found in higher concentrations in Benifuki than in other cultivars, may significantly reduce allergy symptoms, especially those related to pollen like hay fever and environmental allergens. Combined with EGCG, these compounds contribute to the tea’s anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, and immune supportive properties. This makes Sencha Benifuki not only a refined beverage but also a functional tea of growing global interest.

It has clean and oceanic aroma, with a touch of seaweed and steamed greens like the classic Sencha freshness with delicate marine and vegetal notes. A soft bitterness balanced by sweetness, leaving a clean aftertaste with a slightly deeper umami and intensity, likely a heritage from its black tea lineage. Offering a smooth, clean, and refreshing mouthfeeling, once infused
has a pale green with a slight golden hue color.

Sencha Benifuki offers an elegant balance between depth and drinkability, making it ideal for daily tea sessions or mindful breaks. It is also excellent for cold brew, offering a smooth, sweet, and refreshing tea perfect for warmer days. Cold brewing preserves the tea’s amino acids and prevents bitterness, highlighting its natural sweetness and umami.
