In the high Himalayan foothills of Darjeeling, where sacred land meets the clouds, the Risheehat Tea Estate offers one of the finest expressions of the First Flush season. We are proud to introduce this exceptional 2025 harvest-a tea of both history and harmony, drawn from one of the most revered gardens in all of India.
Risheehat, meaning “Abode of the Saints”, was once a spiritual site long before becoming a tea plantation. Nestled in the rich, fertile soils of Darjeeling’s central valley, the estate was established in the mid-19th century by British planters who introduced the first tea bushes to India from China-illicitly smuggled, as legend tells. The estate’s elevation and proximity to the towering Kanchenjunga (8,586 m) create an environment of rare vibrancy and energy. This mystical sense of place resonates in every cup.
Due to unusually cool weather during the early weeks of spring, the tea leaves harvest arrived later than expected-with Risheehat’s picked in early May. But the extra time spent maturing on the plant has yielded a leaf that is more expressive and aromatic than ever. This delayed flush carries layered complexity and delicate energy, making it one of the highlights of our Darjeeling collection this year, alongside the trusted classic of Seeyok tea.
This tea is a masterclass in subtlety and refinement, with a structure that reveals new nuances with each sip. Once infused this tea has a pale golden, with a sparkling clarity that reflects its purity. It was selected for its standout character-easily among the best Darjeeling teas we’ve tasted in years.
Darjeeling teas like Risheehat excel in cold brew preparation, a method that enhances the multi-layered, ethereal profile of these high-grown teas.
Brewing Recommendations for a Cold Brew:
- Add 15 grams of loose leaf tea to a glass pitcher.
- Gently pour in room temperature water, allowing the water to flow over the leaves to begin extraction.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, tasting occasionally to find your preferred intensity.
- Serve in wine glasses to elevate the aromatic experience.
- The result is a crystal-clear, refreshing infusion with a bouquet of fruit and florals-perfect for warm days or elegant occasions.
Risheehat is more than just a tea-it’s a tribute to a sacred land, a historic garden, and the grace of early spring in the Himalayas. Let this rare harvest transport you to the high hills of Darjeeling with every delicate, fragrant sip.
