The pitcher is one of the essential tools of Gong Fu Cha, the traditional Chinese tea-brewing technique. It can also be used as a teapot for infusing large-leaf teas, such as most pure teas from China and Taiwan.
The pitcher is used as the receiving vessel for the liquid after the infusion inside the teapot. Instead of pouring directly from the teapot into multiple cups, the tea is first poured entirely into the pitcher, and only then into each cup individually. This prevents the tea from being stronger in some cups and weaker in others.
The teapot has a capacity of 280 ml. We selected this size because it works well both for Gong Fu Cha and for Western-style infusions. Perfect for pure teas and multiple infusions.
Yingge clay is particularly well suited to crafting high-quality teapots. The area is full of tea shops and artisan workshops. Nearby, several quarries still extract excellent clay. Its distinctive feature is porosity that is “just right,” with a balanced mineral composition. Yingge teapots are among Taiwan’s best for infusion performance—you will notice the difference.
Master Shen is a true master of teapot craftsmanship. He continues his workshop’s tradition, today with the help of his wife. It is a simple place where teapots are crafted using plaster molds he creates himself.
The production process of each pitcher:
- Design and conception of the teapot
- Creation of plaster molds
- Forming each individual piece (handle, lid, spout, body, etc.)
- Pouring liquid clay into each mold and leaving it to rest until the correct amount of water evaporates
- Assembling the pieces by hand to form the raw teapot
- Smoothing imperfections and refining the shape
- Firing at temperatures chosen according to various factors
A wonderful gift for both connoisseurs and newcomers to Taiwanese tea.
