Milky – Oolong Tea

Origin: China
Infusion Temperature: 90° Celsius
Infusion Time: 2 minutes
Serving Size: 3-4 grams/200 ml

From the renowned tea growing region of Anxi, Fujian Province, China, a name long associated with high-quality Chinese oolongs comes this Milky Oolong, a flavored tea designed to deliver a rich, indulgent experience reminiscent of sweet cream and vanilla.

Harvested in Summer and crafted from a lightly oxidized oolong base of 15%, this tea is delicately infused with two vegan friendly flavorings that recreate the beloved milky aroma and taste made famous by Taiwan’s Jin Xuan Milky oolong. While Jin Xuan Milky develops its buttery character naturally through its cultivar and artisanal processing, Milky Oolong enhances and intensifies that profile through flavoring, offering a bolder, more immediately noticeable creamy aroma.

The result is a smooth, sweet, and comforting infusion with prominent notes of vanilla custard with a soft floral undertones, sweet cream, and warm milk, and a hint of green orchid especially present in the first few steeps. The smooth and mellow flavor remains enjoyable and present through three to four infusions, making this tea not only delicious but also economical.

This tea is especially suited to those who enjoy dessert like teas or are seeking an accessible introduction to the oolong category. Its flavor forward nature makes it a great afternoon comfort tea or a warm treat after meals.

Brewing Recommendations:

Western Style Infusion Method:

  • Use 3-4 grams of tea per 200 ml of water
  • Water temperature: 90°C
  • Steep for 2 minutes
  • Re-steep up to 3-4 times, gradually increasing steep time

Gong Fu Cha Infusion Style:

  • 5-6 grams in a Gaiwan with 100-120 ml of water
  • Water temperature: 90-95°C
  • First infusion: 20-30 seconds
  • Re-steep for up to 5 rounds

While Milky Oolong is inspired by Taiwan’s Jin Xuan Milky, it differs in origin and production. Jin Xuan Milky’s creamy taste is entirely natural, developed through careful cultivation and oxidation of a specific tea cultivar. In contrast, Milky Oolong from China is made with a base oolong tea that’s flavored to enhance sweetness and dairy-like notes.

Although it is not a naturally creamy tea, the flavored Milky Oolong has become immensely popular for its comforting, nostalgic flavor profile, and remains a favorite among those who enjoy soft, sweet oolongs or are transitioning from flavored teas into the broader world of loose-leaf.

Milky Oolong offers a smooth, creamy experience that’s both approachable and satisfying. Perfect for those seeking a naturally sweet, dessert-like infusion, it makes a lovely companion for quiet moments or indulgent tea breaks. A contemporary flavored classic imported directly from China and selected for its balanced, aromatic quality.
