Preparing Matcha at home is a rewarding ritual, requiring just a few essential tools

  • A wide bowl (Chawan)
  • A bamboo whisk (Chasen)
  • Optional: a bamboo scoop (Chashaku) and a whisk holder

Preparation steps:

  • Heat water to approximately 65°C;
  • Pour about two fingers’ worth of water into the bowl:
  • Add a small amount of Matcha powder (about one scoop with the Chashaku);
  • Whisk gently to break up clumps and create a smooth paste;
  • Add the remaining water;
  • Vigorously whisk in a zigzag “M” motion until a fine froth forms on the surface;
  • The goal is to fully emulsify the Matcha powder and create a creamy, even texture without residue at the bottom;
