Latin Name:   Crataegus Monogyna

Origin Country:   Bulgaria

Crataegus Monogyna, commonly known as hawthorn, common hawthorn, quickthorn, thornapple, may-tree, whitethorn, or mayflower, is a deciduous shrub or small tree belonging to the Rosaceae (rose) family. Native to Europe, northwest Africa, and western Asia, hawthorn has been traditionally valued for its ornamental beauty, edible berries, and use in herbal preparations.

The plant produces clusters of fragrant white or pinkish flowers in spring, followed by small red berries called haws that ripen in autumn. Dried hawthorn berries have a naturally mild, slightly sweet and tart flavour, making them ideal for herbal teas, fruit blends, jams, jellies, and culinary preparations.

It is very common for hawthorn berries to develop small white spots on their outer skin. This is a natural Crystallization of sugars (sucrose) during the drying and maturation process and does not indicate damage or a defective product.
